Graduate Case Study with Kieran Fleming

CoviPure is an internationally renowned biotech company using innovative technologies to revolutionise the industry. Early this year, Furza worked closely with CoviPure to recruit and build their first outbound sales team. We recently caught up with successful candidate Kieran to hear about his experience with Furza and his new career as a Sales Development Representative.

How did you find the interview process with Furza?

After graduating I applied for with role at Furza on LinkedIn. The recruitment process was really straight forward and the graduate management team took the time to understand my goals and find a role that suited me. They gave helpful advice and guidance to prepare for the assessment day so I could put my best foot forward.

Why did you apply for a role in sales?

I’d always been interested in business and marketing but lacked experience. After reading the job description I knew I had plenty of transferable skills I could forward to the role such as communication and relationship building so I thought I’d go for it. The salary was attractive for an entry-level role too and I like that I was able to earn my own commission.

What did you learn through the Furza recruitment process?

I learnt how important it is to have a trusted recruiter on your side. Furza stressed the importance of being myself on the day and told me to show my personality, I think that’s what ultimately helped me secure my job at CoviPure.

I’d been through a couple of Zoom interviews and I felt it was really hard to stand out and show your personality when you’re sat behind a computer screen. Being in a room with the client and getting to meet them 1-1 really made a difference. I’d recommend to those interviewing to get yourself out there and meet face to face.

Why did you accept a role as an SDR at CoviPure?

I’d initially say the growth and progression opportunities they could offer me. I spoke to the Furza team about how important this was to me and they put me forward for an opportunity that fit with my expectations. With CoviPure’s expansion into offshore markets, there is huge scope for progression here so I’m looking forward to growing and developing with the business.

I’d also say the team, it was great to meet them face to face on the assessment day and get a feel for the people and company culture.

How has your time as an SDR at CoviPure been so far?

It’s been fantastic - it’s a great working environment, and everyone is really friendly and helpful. You can tell just how passionate everyone is about the company and the product, that buzz makes everyone excited about what they’re doing. Our sales coach is really knowledgeable and approachable which has made learning about the product straightforward, giving me the confidence to be able to get stuck straight in.

What skills have you learnt?

Having no prior sales experience, I feel like I’ve learnt a lot in a short time period. I’d say the main skill I’ve learned so far is communication and being able to speak to decision-makers in large-scale businesses. At first, it could be intimidating, but being able to communicate effectively is fundamental in building trust and creating a rapport with potential clients - I’ve certainly come a long way from my first cold outreach!

I've loved the challenge of learning about complex products and how they can genuinely help other businesses. At CoviPure we’re lucky to have access to the senior management team who have years of industry experience and loads of knowledge to offer, the team here has been instrumental in expanding my product knowledge.

What is the most exciting part about your role at CoviPure?

Without a doubt the product - it’s challenging to sell but that’s what makes it exciting. I’ve loved getting involved in the biotechnology market and finding out what it’s all about. Being part of the new sales team here is also exciting, we all went through the Furza process through to placement together so we have a great team bond.

What advice would you give to someone looking for a role in sales?
